Welcome to the Sibelius Getting Started Guide for Screen Reader Users. This series of tutorials is produced by the Assistive Music Technology Lab at Berklee College of Music. It’s based in part on Avid’s Sibelius Tutorial PDF and uses the example scores that come with Sibelius. This introduction section covers Quick Start, the ribbon, the score object, keyboard shortcuts, and other useful information before you dive into the main tutorial.

Part I - Opening and Editing a Score

This lesson shows you how to open a score, introduces the ribbon, and explains how to navigate around a score using various keyboard shortcuts. It also covers making selections, and copying and pasting. Using an arrangement of the folk song “Scarborough Fair,” you will learn how to edit and input notes using your computer keyboard and MIDI keyboard, and how to input lyrics. You will be introduced to playback, and to marking up your score with text and dynamics.

Part II - Creating a Score and Parts

This lesson shows you how to create a new score, introduce clef and key signature changes, execute more advanced note input including tuplets, and explore the different kinds of objects — including articulations, lines, ties, slurs and text — commonly used to mark up scores. You will also be introduced to dynamic parts, and exporting graphics from Sibelius.
